The Obici House | Suffolk Wedding Venue

Located within the Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk, Virginia, The Obici House is a timelessly beautiful wedding venue. Overlooking the Nansemond River, it is surrounded by gorgeous natural scenery and the pristine greens of the golf course. The architecture of the house is clearly Italian-inspired, leaving the clean white façade of the building to provide a gorgeous backdrop for wedding photos. With water views, sprawling lawns, and unique stained glass windows, there is much to work with for your wedding day.

The history of The Obici House is quite interesting. Even though the house dates back to the 1890s, its more recent history is what makes it storied. The founder of Planter’s Peanuts- you know, the brand you think of when you think of peanuts- lived there until the late 1940s. There’s still a statue of the Planter Peanut outside of the house. Weddings have been hosted there since the 70s.

A wedding at The Obici House

If you are looking to host your wedding at The Obici House, here are a few things that may help you with your planning:

There are a number of options for your party. You can have your event in the house, in a tented reception on the lawn, outdoors in the pergola, or on the front steps. The property is fully handicap accessible, so all of your guests will be able to get around no matter what you choose.

You do not get full day access of the property, only 6 hours of continuous use. There is a bridal dressing suite available.

They provide set up, clean up, chairs, tables, and a dance floor depending on what package you get. You can have a tented reception, but those require your own rentals. If you are only using the lawn, you will need to provide portable restrooms. They have an extensive list of rentals available for any event.

You might get access to a golf cart or two for your photos! The house itself makes for a gorgeous backdrop to your photos, with its red roof, white exterior, and exquisite landscaping.

If this sort of venue sounds like what you have had in mind for your wedding day, I encourage you to take a look at their website. You can also email their staff with questions. If you are in need of a photographer for your wedding, Mark and I would love to help! Whether you plan your wedding at The Obici House or elsewhere, no distance is too far. Get in touch. We would love to get to know you.
